Tony Parker

Tony Parker: The Visionary Who Shaped Parker Furniture

Tony Parker isn’t just a name in Australian furniture design, he’s a living legend. The son of Jack J.W. Parker, founder of Parker Furniture Australia, Tony has spent a lifetime redefining what furniture could be. With a designer’s eye, an innovator’s mind, and an unwavering commitment to craftsmanship, he didn’t just build furniture, he set new standards for how Australians lived with it.

His journey began in 1949 when he joined the family business after studying design at East Sydney Technical College. But Tony knew that real innovation required more than just skill, it needed vision. In 1952, he set off for London, working as a salesman at the prestigious John Lewis department store on Oxford Street. But he wasn’t just there to sell; he was there to learn. While at John Lewis, he helped introduce the concept of “Dream Rooms”, beautifully curated spaces where customers could experience furniture in a home-like setting. It was a game-changer, and Tony brought this idea back to Australia.

When he returned to Sydney in 1953, he wasn’t just bringing back ideas, he was bringing a revolution. His designs caught the attention of Grace Brothers, one of the country’s largest retailers, and when Sydney held its first-ever furniture exhibition, Tony’s collection stole the show. Described as a Fashion Revolution, his pieces weren’t just furniture, they were statements of modern Australian living.

Under his leadership, Parker Furniture became a household name, synonymous with quality, innovation, and timeless design. Decades later, Tony’s influence is still felt in homes across Australia, and his passion for great design remains as strong as ever. His legacy isn’t just in the furniture that endures, it’s in the way he transformed the way Australians see and experience their homes.

Our Process

Done the Proper Way, No Cutting Corners

At Covesmore Solutions, every restoration begins with a simple principle: do it once, do it properly.
We don’t cut corners, and we don’t compromise on quality. Our process is designed to bring each piece back to its full potential, the way it was meant to be.

1. Strip & Repolish (Woodwork)

Every timber frame is completely stripped back to bare wood. We don’t sand over old finishes or “touch up” what’s already failing, we start fresh.

  • Spray booth refinishing: All polishing is carried out in our professional spray booth, ensuring a flawless, dust-free finish.
  • Furniture-grade 2-pack finish: We use the same durable finish Parker Furniture originally applied, designed for longevity and everyday use.
  • No shortcuts: This isn’t a quick sand and wipe. It’s a full restoration that honours the craftsmanship of the original makers.

2. Reupholstery (Fabric & Leather)

Reupholstery is never just “recovering.” Each piece is carefully disassembled, rebuilt, and brought back to life from the inside out.

  • New foam, webbing, and infills: we rebuild the seating foundation for comfort and structural integrity.
  • Premium fabrics and leathers: sourced from leading suppliers, with a wide range to suit your home.
  • Parker-trained craftsmen: our team worked for Parker Furniture and carry forward the same standards of excellence.

3. Why This Matters

There are quicker, cheaper ways to do upholstery and polishing, but they don’t last, and they don’t respect the integrity of the piece.

Our process is about quality over shortcuts:

  • Every joint is tightened
  • Every surface is refinished properly.
  • Every seat is rebuilt for comfort and longevity.

It’s not the cheapest way, but it’s the right way. That’s why we’re trusted by families, collectors, and designers who want their furniture restored with care, respect, and uncompromising craftsmanship.
